If you desire to restore the firmness and shape of your breasts, then a breast lift, or mastopexy, may be right for you. At Joseph Banis Plastic Surgery in Louisville, KY, breast lift surgery is performed by board-certified plastic surgeons Dr. Joseph C. Banis, Jr., Dr. Angela Prescott, and board-eligible plastic surgeon Dr. Blake Sparks.
What Are The Benefits of a Breast Lift?
A breast lift differs from a breast reduction, where the primary objective is more about a reduction in size than a change in shape. Patients seek out breast lift surgery because of the following benefits:
- Raises and firms the breasts
- Removes excess skin
- Tightens surrounding tissue
- Reshapes and supports a new breast contour
- Effective for both smaller and larger breasts
- Outpatient procedure with minimal downtime
Who Is a Candidate for a Breast Lift?
Women who have noticed sagging breasts, often with downward-facing areolae and nipples, are usually excellent candidates for a breast lift. These symptoms typically occur due to gravity from aging, frequently made more significant by pregnancy or weight fluctuations.
If the volume of the breasts is also too large, we may be able to combine your breast lift with a breast reduction. Similarly, many patients choose to receive implants during a mastopexy procedure to add to their newer, perkier look.
What Happens During Mastopexy Surgery?
If approved for a breast lift, your procedure will begin with the administration of general anesthesia to make sure you’re comfortable. Next, your surgeon will carefully utilize one of the following incision techniques depending on your unique anatomy and aesthetic goals:
- Periareolar (around the areola’s perimeter)
- Vertical/Lollipop (periareolar plus a vertical line extending to the breast crease)
- Inverted T/Anchor (Lollipop plus an additional incision along the crease itself)
Using these incisions, Dr. Banis, Dr. Prescott, or Dr. Sparks will then reshape and lift the underlying breast tissue as well as remove excess skin. The nipples and areolae are repositioned higher, and enlarged areolae may be reduced as needed. Finally, the incisions are closed, and bandages are applied.
Breast Lift Recovery
Most patients report some swelling and bruising after a mastopexy. Wearing a surgical bra for at least a couple of weeks will be necessary to reduce swelling and help your breasts adhere to their new shape. You should plan on taking at least two weeks off from work for recovery, possibly longer if your job involves heavy lifting.
How Much Does a Mastopexy Cost?
The cost of your breast lift surgery will depend on the extent of the procedure, anesthesia fees, and other patient-specific factors. If your breast lift is combined with a reduction or augmentation, your treatment plan’s price will be affected.
