Dr. McCurry was born into a military family at Fort Benning Georgia. His father was a career Army Chinook helicopter pilot. His family made its way back to Kentucky after his dad retired to be nearer to his mother’s side of the family. He initially thought a military career was in his future as well and after high school was accepted to the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland. But after two years he a change of heart and returned home where he graduated with highest honors in Electrical Engineering from the University of Louisville Speed School in 1991. This was followed by his MD, Cum Laude, from the University of Louisville School of Medicine in 1996. He stayed on to complete the internationally renowned General Surgery residency program in 2001 and then the Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery program at Indiana University in 2003. He has passed the written and oral examinations for the Board Certification (the highest qualification for U.S. specialty training) both in General Surgery and is a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgery (ASPS). He has served on the full-time teaching faculty at the University of Louisville School of Medicine division of Plastic Surgery for 17 years, teaching young Plastic Surgeons-in-training the intricacies of the art and science of the specialty.
During his academic practice he has served as Associate Director of the Plastic Surgery residency training program for. He has served as the Director of both the Breast Reconstruction Project and the Post -Bariatric (weight loss) Cosmetic Surgery programs at the University of Louisville.
